FiveM Enhanced: Everything You Need to Know About GTRP's Biggest Revolution

If you've played or developed on FiveM over the past few years, you've definitely experienced the frustration: shots unregistered due to desync, cars rubber-banding across the highway, or servers lagging as soon as player counts breach 100.

All of that is about to become a thing of the past.

With the launch of FiveM Enhanced, the GTA RP community is entering its most significant evolution since FiveM's inception. But what actually is FiveM Enhanced? Why is it such a massive deal, and what should server owners and developers do next?

Here is a complete breakdown based on official Cfx.re documentation and insights from veteran FiveM developer Trace (who works on servers hosting 600+ players per night).

What is FiveM Enhanced Actually?

To understand FiveM Enhanced, you first need to understand what FiveM Legacy was running on.

FiveM Legacy was built on the original Grand Theft Auto V base from 2013 (the PS3/Xbox 360 era). The client architecture was over a decade old and simply wasn't designed to handle modern multiplayer demands at scale.

FiveM Enhanced isn't just an update. It is a ground-up rebuild of the FiveM client based on Rockstar Games' Enhanced version of GTA V—the one rebuilt for PS5, Xbox Series, and modern PC hardware.

Following Rockstar's official acquisition of Cfx.re in August 2023, the development team finally has the underlying access and resources needed to modernize the engine from scratch.

The 4 Pillars of the Tech Overhaul

1. 120Hz Sync Rate

This is the single biggest change. Legacy was locked to a 30-40Hz sync rate, which was the root cause of hitches, speed-glitching, and rubber-banding during fast driving or intense gunfights. With up to 120Hz sync rate, player-to-player responsiveness becomes hyper-fluid. Once players experience a server running on 120Hz, playing on a 30Hz Legacy server will feel completely outdated.

2. 50% Less Server RAM Usage

FiveM servers have notoriously been memory hogs. Enhanced cuts server RAM consumption by 50% right out of the box. Even without rewriting your code, your server will run significantly smoother, saving server owners huge VPS hosting costs on large 200+ player communities.

3. Server Metrics Jump from 3 to 80

Previously, when a server started lagging, identifying the culprit (was it a heavy script, a bad vehicle asset, or a broken MLO?) involved tedious guessing games. With 80 real-time performance metrics (covering network, entity sync, and resource usage), developers can instantly trace performance bottlenecks.

4. C# Migration from Mono to .NET

For C# developers, the runtime transitions from outdated Mono to modern .NET. (Note: If you write in Lua, which is recommended by Cfx and used by 90% of servers, nothing changes for you!)

Key Features & Breaking Changes

  • Mandatory Pure Mode: Pure Mode has no off switch now. It blocks client-side game file modifications to eliminate common cheats. (Note: graphic mods like NVE or QuantV cannot be loaded during early access).
  • OneSync Unification: "Big mode" has been eliminated. OneSync now handles player scaling automatically without complex server.cfg tinkering.
  • File Renaming: The server binary FXServer.exe has been renamed to CFXServer.exe.
  • Secured Dev Tools: Developer mode now requires sv_devmode or per-player authorization to prevent unauthorized access.

Should You Migrate Your Server Today?

The short answer: Not for your live production server yet, but YES for your development team.

Why live servers should wait

The Asset Escrow system (used to protect paid Tebex/Marketplace scripts) is not yet supported on Enhanced. Since almost every production server relies on paid escrowed scripts, you won't be able to run your full stack just yet. Cfx.re recommends waiting until Escrow support drops (expected in 1–2 months).

Why developers must start now

The server owners and developers who take the time to learn Enhanced today will dominate when Escrow goes live. The performance gap between 120Hz Enhanced servers and 30Hz Legacy servers will be too large for players to ignore.

What Does This Mean for GTA 6?

Cfx.re acquired by Rockstar, competitor platforms shut down (Alt:V, RageMP), and a full client rebuild funded just months ahead of GTA 6 points to a single conclusion:

  1. FiveM is being established as Rockstar's long-term official Roleplay ecosystem.
  2. FiveM Enhanced serves as the technical foundation and testing ground for future GTA RP integration in the GTA 6 era.

Rockstar wouldn't pour massive engineering resources into FiveM if they intended to let GTRP die. The future of FiveM is brighter than ever!
